My son has a great music production/mixing/monitoring system, but it lacked really deep bass response. He purchased a commercially made subwoofer for about $400, and after hooking it up, was terribly disappointed. It rolled off sharply at about 50Hz, so would NOT reproduce even low E on a 4-string bass.. TOTALLY UNACCEPTABLE!
So I said “take it back, let’s build one”. We chose the Dayton Sub Plate amp and DVC 10″ sub driver, and designed a 2.8 cu. ft. ported cabinet, to fit under his desk, or beside it. The results are amazing! Deep solid bass, only 2db down at 30Hz, with significant output down to 20Hz. The cabinet is lightweight, but carefully braced inside to achieve non-resonant panels.
